Why Summer is the Perfect Time to Start Therapy

As a therapist, I’ve noticed that certain seasons bring with them a unique energy—and summer has a gentle way of opening doors. While there's no wrong time to begin therapy, summer often provides a softer, more spacious place to start.

If therapy has been on your mind, I want to offer some kind encouragement—and a few reasons why this season might be the right one for you.

1. Life Slows Down (a Little)

Summer can feel like a long, deep breath. School is out, work may ease up, and even weekends seem to stretch a little longer. This natural pause makes it easier to commit to something for you—like weekly therapy. With fewer demands pulling at you, there’s more room to be intentional about your healing and growth.

2. You Might Feel a Bit Lighter

Sunshine, fresh air, more time outside—it’s no coincidence that many people feel a bit more emotionally resourced in the summer. And when you’re feeling a little more balanced, it can be easier to look inward with clarity and courage. You’re not starting from a place of crisis—you’re choosing growth. That’s powerful.

3. It’s a Season of Planting

Summer often brings new beginnings—weddings, moves, transitions, travel. It can also be a time to plant seeds within yourself. Starting therapy now means you’re giving those seeds the space to take root before life speeds back up again in the fall. By then, you’ll have a stronger foundation to support you.

4. A Chance to Reset

Mid-year is a beautiful time to check in with yourself. What’s been working? What hasn’t? What needs tending? Therapy can help you reflect with compassion and make gentle, meaningful shifts—so that the rest of your year can unfold with more intention and care.

You Deserve This
Starting therapy is a brave and loving step toward yourself. Whether you're carrying something heavy or simply longing to know yourself better, summer offers a soft place to begin. You don’t need to have all the answers—you just need a little willingness and a safe place to land.

If you’re ready, I’m here. And if you're not quite ready, that’s okay too. Take your time. But know that healing doesn’t have to wait for a crisis—sometimes, it begins on a quiet, sunny day when you finally say yes to yourself.

With warmth and care,
Jolene
